Mrs. Mary Nell Freeman Hood, 98, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Rome. Born in Carrollton, Oct. 12, 1912, she was the youngest daughter of the late Rev. Clifton Freeman and the late Cornelia Williamson Freeman.

She was married to the late James Roney Hood, Feb. 10, 1935 and was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Lois F. Morris and Ruth F. Hartsook; her brothers, W. O. Freeman and Troy Freeman; and her nephews, J.C. Morris, James Freeman, Phil Hood, Joel Hood and Donald Hood.

She was a faithful member of Kingston United Methodist Church, having served in the Methodist church in every elected office for over eighty years. She was also the oldest surviving member of the church. Mrs. Hood was past president of the Kingston Woman's History Club serving two terms and was also active in the local garden club.

The survivors include a great niece, Gloria Ann F. Gregg; a great nephew, Kyle Freeman of Rome; great nieces and nephews, Ruth Ann, Ava, and John Kyle Freeman, Zachery Poole and Lauren Hamilton. She is also survived by the "greatest" in- laws: sister-in-laws Marjorie Hood of Kingston and Louise Hood of Cartersville; and several other nieces and nephews, Earl Hood Jr.; Melvin Hood, wife Quinn; Phyllis Casey, husband Ronald; Sam Hood Jr., wife Beth and Rosemary Winn, husband Jim; great nieces and nephews, Tara Padgett, Nicole Shelton, Kelly Garcia, Arian, Jay, and Morgan Winn. Great-great nieces and nephews, Garrett and Tyler Shelton, Anna Grace Padgett, Bennett and Caitlyn Garcia.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Shelton, Reggie Padgett, Chris Garcia and Jay Winn. Danny Jolly will serve as an honorary pallbearer. These gentlemen are asked to meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
