Jack Martin, 90, of Kingston, formerly of Avondale Estates, Ga., and Quincy, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, following a sudden illness.

Mr. Martin was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Henry County, a son of the late Bert Henry Martin and Pansy Ward Martin, and was raised in the East Atlanta area.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a Seabee in the South Pacific, was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cartersville, and a successful businessman in the Atlanta area, concentrating on the furniture business in his earlier years and later in the financial industry. He lived in the Quincy, Fla., area for a number of years and loved playing golf, flying airplanes and sports. He was a lifetime member of the Atlanta Athletic Club.

Preceded in death by two wives, Edith Burnside Martin and Evelyn Ashley Martin, Jack is survived by his son, Tony Martin of Kingston; his daughter, Darwin Martin of Calhoun; his adopted daughter, Carol Gobbel; two granddaughters, Lane Peters and Kelly Layton and their husbands, Scott Peters and Brent Layton; and four great-grandsons, Austin and Lee Peters and Davis and Luke Layton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jack David Martin; daughter-in-law, Toni Martin; and granddaughter, Beth Martin; his brother, B.H. Martin; and his sister, Ruth Tanner.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, from the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cartersville with Rev. Ed Wadsworth and Rev. Mike Morgan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, for those desiring, the family requests contributions to your favorite charity.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service on Saturday.
