A kidnapping and rape Thursday night near Taylorsville is under investigation by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.According to a press release, in the early hours of Friday, a Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to Polk County Medical Center in Cedartown where a 34-year-old female reported a sexual assault. The woman told the deputy she had stopped at Dollar General, 2335 Highway 113, Taylorsville, between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday. After purchasing several items, she left in her burnt orange Chrysler minivan and continued toward her home in Rockmart.Shortly after leaving the Dollar General, an unknown male surprised her from behind her seat and used her seat belt to strangle her, forcing her to pull over. The male forced her to the rear seat and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, the male fled from the van in an unknown direction.The victim suffered injuries to the face and neck and was treated and released from the hospital. She was able to describe the man as a large-built white male with a dark tan, middle-aged with scruffy facial hair and work boots. She said he smelled like he had not bathed and like he was a heavy cigarette smoker.Investigators are following up on leads to identify and arrest the offender.
