Vic Beasley records first sack of season

Adairsville’s own Vic Beasley recorded his first sack of the season in the Atlanta Falcons’ 35-28 victory over the Oakland Raiders Monday.

Beasley ran quarterback Derek Carr out of bounds on a second-and-14 in the second quarter, leading to a punt two plays later. Beasley added another tackle in the game, and finished with two solo tackles, his first tackles of the season.

In college action, former Tiger and former Colonel defensive backs DeAndre Applin and Da’Kelin Wells recovered fumbles for Georgia Military and Maryville, respectively.

From Cartersville, T.L. Ford caught his second touchdown pass in as many weeks, while Malik Wilkins returned a blocked punt to the opponents’ 2-yard line for Maryville, and Miller Forristall made a block that sprung a long run for Alabama, as he has seen action in all three games for the Crimson Tide.

DeAndre Applin (Georgia Military So., Adairsville) — Applin had one tackle and a fumble recovery in Georgia Military College’s 61-10 win over ASA College Sunday. In four games, Applin has 10 tackles, eight solo, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery.

T.L. Ford (UNC Charlotte Jr., Cartersville) — Ford caught his second touchdown pass of the season, this one from 28 yards out during the 49ers’ loss to Eastern Michigan Saturday. Ford had four receptions for 51 yards in the game, and now has 12 receptions for 168 yards through three games.

Miller Forristall (Alabama Fr., Cartersville) — Forristall has seen action in all three games for the Crimson Tide after starting the opener. He helped Alabama defeat Ole Miss in the Tide’s SEC opener Saturday, 48-43.

Forristall has been drawing praise from the coaching staff for his blocking, and helped spring a long run by freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts on Saturday.

Jamar Posey (Birmingham Southern Jr., Woodland) — Posey saw action in his team’s 21-16 conference win over Sewanee Saturday.

Mark Quattlebaum (UNC Charlotte So., Cartersville) — Quattlebaum saw action in UNC Charlotte’s 37-19 loss to Eastern Michigan Saturday.

Shelby Townsend (Georgia Southern So., Woodland) — Townsend saw acton for the Eagles in their 23-21 win over Louisiana-Monroe Saturday in Statesboro.

Hiram Velez (Troy Jr., Adairsville) — Velez caught one pass for 12 yards in Troy’s 37-31 win at Southern Miss Saturday. Velez’s catch came in the second quarter on a second-and-15 and gave the Trojans a manageable third down, which they later converted a fourth down to keep the chains moving.

Velez was targeted five times in the game.

Da’Kelin Wells (Maryville Jr., Cass) — Wells started and had three tackles, two solo, and recovered a fumble in Maryville’s 43-36 win Saturday over Emory & Henry.

Malik Wilkins (Maryville Jr., Cartersville) — Wilkins returned a blocked punt eight yards to Emory & Henry’s 2-yard line in the first quarter of Maryville’s 43-36 win Saturday.
