FCA Bartow is banking on a former SEC Coach of the Year to make its biggest fundraiser of the year a huge success.
Former Auburn head football coach Gene Chizik will be the featured guest speaker at the Cartersville-based Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ 14th Annual FCA Home Team Fundraising Banquet Friday, March 8, at the Clarence Brown Conference Center at 5450 Highway 20 in Cartersville.
Chizik, who compiled a 33-19 record during his four seasons (2009-12) at Auburn, coached the college’s undefeated national championship team in 2010 and was named the 2010 SEC Coach of the Year.
He also was 3-0 in bowl games, including the national championship game, while at Auburn.
“Each year, we try to choose from a list of speakers that we feel will offer some variety,” FCA Area Director Sherry Spinks said. “We've had football coaches, professional baseball players and Christian comedians. This year, our board unanimously voted to bring in Gene Chizik because of his character and success as a coach.”
The evening of fun and fellowship will include a silent auction filled with a variety of sports memorabilia, a catered dinner and music in addition to the program featuring Chizik.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the silent auction begins immediately, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the program at 6:30 p.m.
Backed by presenting sponsor Kennesaw Transportation, the event usually draws 450 to 500 supporters, “and we are expecting to have the same turnout this year,” Spinks said.
All proceeds go toward helping FCA fund ministry programs and resources in Bartow County.
“Our ministry is completely faith-funded,” Spinks said. “We always ask people to make donations at the banquet so it's really hard to say where we will end up. We are praying that God moves and that people feel inspired and led to be a part of what God is doing in our ministry by giving financially.”
Individual tickets — $75 each — and sponsorships, which include a meet and greet with Chizik, are still available through Friday: Hall of Fame sponsor, $2,500; All-American sponsor, $1,000; and All-State sponsor, $750.
