The Cartersville City School Board Monday night approved a few trips and rental requests for the school system.
Board members approved 7-0 an overnight trip for the high school's Future Business Leaders of America members to attend the FBLA Fall Leadership Conference Nov. 7-8 at the Athens Classic Center and the accompanying hotel in Athens.
They also unanimously gave Superintendent Dr. Marc Feuerbach approval to attend two conferences as a participant of the Schlechty Center Superintendent Leadership Network — April 24-26, 2019, location to be announced, and June 30-July 3, 2019, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.
The Professional Association of Georgia Educators will pay for Feuerbach's conference registration, air travel and lodging for each event.
The board unanimously approved a rental request from Tranquility House in Cartersville to use the middle school grounds and parking lot Dec. 1 from 6 a.m. to noon for the 2018 Jingle Jog 5K Fun Run.
Board members voted unanimously to ratify a rental request for the Spanish enrichment program through OLA Language School to use the elementary school from Aug. 21, 2018, through May 20, 2019, from 2:45 to 3:55 p.m. and for Crosspoint City Church to use the elementary school parking lot every Sunday between Aug. 26, 2018, and Feb. 24, 2019.
The board accepted the resignation of bus driver Jerry Witt, effective Sept. 7, and the retirements of high school teacher Hayley Davis and school board secretary Linda Patterson, both effective Dec. 31. Terri Jones, secretary at the high school, was promoted to school board secretary, effective Jan. 1, 2019.
Mike Freeman from the maintenance department was recognized by the board as the Matthew Hill-Michael Dean HEARTS Employee of the Month for September.
Freeman received a $50 gift certificate to Appalachian Grill from New Frontier of Bartow County Inc. and had his name added to a perpetual plaque displayed in the central office board room.
