Calhoun man drowns in Lake Allatoona

Officials have identified the man who died as a result of drowning in Lake Allatoona Saturday afternoon.

Miguel Ajpop-Diaz, of Calhoun, was declared dead after he was pulled from the lake near Gatewood Park at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday. Ajpop-Diaz was swimming at the lake with family members when he submerged and never resurfaced.

The family called 911, and officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded. Once on the scene, Ajpop-Diaz was pulled from the lake 40 minutes after his disappearance, and he was declared deceased.
