Brock named sole finalist for City Manager's job


Cartersville Assistant City Manager Tamara Brock was named Tuesday, the sole finalist to succeed City Manager Sam Grove following his retirement.

"After a national search of more than 40 candidates," a press release read, "the City of Cartersville names…Tamara W. Brock, currently assistant city manager for the City of Cartersville…as its finalist, for the position of city manager of the City of Cartersville." 

According to the release, the mayor and city council will consider her appointment at its regularly scheduled meeting, Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

Brock earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia in 2003.

In January 2004, she was hired by the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce as community and public relations director. In May 2005, she became director of marketing and communications for Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome.

She was named key accounts manager for the Cartersville Electric System in 2007 and in 2015 was named utility accounts and development manager for the City of Cartersville. In 2017, she was promoted to assistant city manager for utilities where she oversees gas, water and electric utilities.

She and her husband, Josh, recently celebrated the birth of their second daughter, Mary Collins Brock. Their first daughter’s name is Carder Elizabeth Brock.

"I am honored to be chosen as the finalist for the City Manager position in Cartersville," Brock said. "I look forward to the Mayor and City Council’s decision at the June 7 council meeting."
