Fall sports roundup: O’Connor posts strong numbers in losses


CROSS COUNTRY
Bree Cole (Jacksonville State So., Cartersville) — Cole posted a time of 21:08 to finish 54th in the 5K at the Florida State Invitational at Apalachee Regional Park Saturday.

Jaison Morning (Valdosta State Jr., Cass) — Morning finished 19th out of 117 runners with a time of 27:42 in the 8K at the Bobcat Invitational at Georgia College. His average mile was 5:34. Valdosta State men’s team finished fourth with an average time of 28:02.

GOLF
Maggie Ashmore (Augusta Sr., Kingston resident) — Ashmore led her team and shot 75, 72, 72 for a total of 219 and a 12th place finish in the Magnolia Invitational over three days last week. Her Augusta team placed eighth overall.

Lindsey Bonner (York Fr., Cartersville) — Bonner shot 100-93 and finished tied for 54th with a score of +49 over two days at the General’s Invitational. Her York team placed ninth in the tournament.

Hannah Mae Deems (Mercer Sr., Taylorsville resident) — Deems placed tied for 15th over the the three-day Johnie Imes Invitational. She shot 75, 68, and 77 for a +4 final par score. Her Mercer team finished 6th overall.

SOCCER
Madison Bennett (North Greenville So., Woodland) — Bennett saw 55 minutes of action as a substitute in a 1-0 North Greenville win over Shaw on October 4. She played 29 minutes in another North Greenville win on Saturday over Mount Olive.

Katelynn Harbeke (Life Jr., Cass) — Harbeke started in 5-0 Life losses to Shawnee State and Cumberlands.

Katie Lawhorn (Life Fr., Adairsville) — Lawhorn came in as a substitute in 5-0 Life losses to Shawnee State and Cumberlands.  

Cody West (Duquesne Sr., Cass) — West played 90 minutes in a 3-0 Duquesne loss to Saint Louis Oct. 4, and in a 5-0 loss to Massachusetts on Saturday.  

VOLLEYBALL

Katie O’Connor (Western Carolina Sr., Cartersville) — O’Connor had 10 kills and 19 total attacks in a 3-1 Western Carolina loss to Furman Oct. 6. She had 11 kills and 20 total attacks in a 3-2 loss to Wofford Saturday. O’Connor is third overall on the team in kills at 159 and is averaging 3.37 kills per set. She leads the team in blocks at 70 and is averaging 1.04 blocks per set.
