The Cartersville cross country teams headed over to Alabama Saturday and got some experience against a big field in the Jesse Owens Classic.
The Lady Canes finished 12th out of 35 teams in the Girls Silver division, while the boys were 16th out of 41 in the Boys Silver division.
Jacob Busek was the top individual finisher for Cartersville on the day, taking 52nd in the boys race in a field of 304 runners.
Maximus Florence was right behind him in 61st.
Freshman Bill Archer, 106th, sophomore Clay Ross, 133rd, and junior Parker Breedlove, 139th, rounded out the scoring spots for the Canes.
For the girls, Vanna Beach ran 22:25 to finish 67th out of 260 runners.
Alex Machado was 10 seconds behind in 73rd at 22:35.
The next three Lady Canes all finished in a pack, squeezing into the top 100. Zane Bryant barely edged out her teammate Alice Terry for 91st, as they both ran 22:55, and Katie Tolbert was right behind in 22:59, which was good for 97th.
The Cartersville cross country teams will be back in action on Thursday for the Wire2Wire Invitational at Sam Smith Park.
