Cass volleyball was fighting for its season Saturday morning, and unfortunately the Lady Colonels came up short in two hard-fought matches at the area tournament, ending their season.
Cass lost 15-25, 18-25 to Carrollton in the opener, giving the Lady Colonels one more chance to stave off elimination against Rome.
That was also a close match, but Cass fell, 19-25, 18-25, and was eliminated.
“The girls had the lead at least once in every set, and they played with tremendous heart today,” Cass coach Chelsea Morris said. “It isn’t the way we wanted to end the season, but the girls accomplished so much in the time they got to play.”
It was a breakthrough season for the Lady Colonels, who finished 22-17 after struggling to win matches in previous years.
Their loss left Cartersville as the last Bartow County team still playing.
The Lady Canes will host Chestatee in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday.
