Canes tennis moves to 4-0 in region

The region wins are coming fast and furious for the Cartersville High boys and girls tennis teams.

After the girls swept Sandy Creek and the boys won 4-1 on Wednesday, the Canes and Lady Canes won by the same scores Thursday, this time on the road at Cedartown.

The Lady Canes won all five matches in straight sets. Emma McCary won at the No. 1 singles line, 6-0, 6-1; Kenly King won at Line 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0; Ansley Thompson won at Line 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3; Taylor Riddle and Jordan Ross won at Line 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-1; and Allyson Ireland and Lydia Wieditz won at Line 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-0.

The boys had three matches go to a third set, splitting the two, as Juan Zazueta and Ivy Nelson won on Line 1 doubles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Ross Norwood lost on Line 3 singles in the third set.

The rest of the boys’ matches were straight-set wins. Will Allen won on Line 1 singles, 6-2, 7-6; Matthew Slocum won on Line 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1; and John Blackhall and Griffin Shaw won on Line 2 doubles, 7-0, 6-2.

The Canes will next face LaGrange on March 22 in what promises to be a big region matchup. Both Cartersville teams are now 4-0 in Region 5-AAAA.
