The Georgia State Patrol confirmed one person was killed in a one-car crash on Old River Road at Highway 293.

GSP Public Information Officer Gordy Wright said the wreck occurred around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Ga. Highway 293. It involved one vehicle traveling south on Highway 293. The driver, Christopher Edward Lary, 43, Emerson, appeared to have lost control in a curve, left the roadway and traveled down an embankment, turned on the passenger’s side and hit a tree.

The driver was airlifted to Grady Hospital and the female passenger, Elizabeth Mary Lary, 33, Emerson, died at the scene.

Bartow County Fire Department Battalion Chief Bryan Keeling said the department worked the crash and had to extricate the deceased.

Two men, wearing gloves and with faces covered, blazed their way into a Cartersville convenience store in the early hours of Thursday.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies responded to an alarm call at Lucky Marathon, 794 Cass White Road, just after 1:30 a.m. to find a rear metal door cut in half.

The deputy said phone lines and security system wires in the rear of the building had been cut, along with a ceiling tile torn down and pliers left on scene. According to the report, the duo made entry in the back of the business and kicked the door, leading to the register being off its hinges.

Bartow County Fire Department was called due to smoke in the building, which is believed to have been caused by the cutting of the door.

Video footage showed the men in dark clothing enter the store, make their way to a back room before exiting through the rear door. A crowbar was recovered behind the building.

The owner said nothing appeared to be missing.
