He was born to the late Jim Jones and Grace Head Fricks, Aug. 6, 1936, in Toccoa. Royce graduated from Toccoa High School in 1954 and received a Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Georgia in 1959. He completed graduate school of banking at Louisiana State University in 1969.
Royce was actively involved with his Lambda Chi Alpha Chapter at UGA and proudly served as a representative of the Interfraternity Council at the University of Georgia. In 1959, he became a member of the Toccoa Lions Club where he and his father were the first father/son members. He later became president of the Kiwanis Club of Bartow County and a member of the Tybee Island Shrine Club in Savannah.
Royce started his 36-year career in banking at Citizens Bank of Toccoa in 1961 and remained in banking until he retired as CEO of People’s Bank of Bartow County in 1997. After retirement, Royce moved to Savannah and lived there for 17 years where he was a devout member of the Savannah Breakfast Club. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs, traveling, cooking and spending time with the love of his life, his granddaughter Adrianna. He treasured being with family and friends and especially enjoyed cruising in his antique Chris Craft on Lake Rabun.
Royce is survived by sons, William R. Fricks Jr. and Allen (Victoria) Fricks of Atlanta; and daughter, Caroline (Jeff) Wood of Baltimore, Md. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Conally; brother, Gary (Linda) Fricks; two grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and extended family. Royce never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place this summer on Lake Rabun. www.davisstruempf.com.
