The Cartersville Twisters claimed seven state championships in individual categories and a team championship at the 2013 Georgia AAU Level 2 and Level 3 event hosted in Bainbridge.

The state champions include Cloie O’Banion, beam, bars (L2); Lyra Roberts, bars (L2); Lydia Childers, bars (L2); Lily McWhorter, vault, bars, all-around (L2); Mackenzi Howell, beam, bars (L3); Sarah Krause, beam (L3); and Rees Wall, floor, beam (L3).

Also, the Twisters’ Level 2 girls team claimed the state championship title in its first year competing. It was one of 21 teams in Georgia seeking the title.

The school’s Level 3 girls team earned fourth place in its category, which drew 17 competing teams.

The Cartersville delegation won numerous other awards in individual categories.

Alan Sanders, with the Twisters, said the organization had several state second- and third-place finishes at the meet, including in Level 2, Gillian Bergman and Elizabeth Hardy, and in Level 3, Alyson Dunn, Mikayla Lowery and Brylie Bohn.

Sanders said six Twisters had their best result of the season, including Annaston Adams (L2), Caroline Schwan (L2), Nenie Roberson (L2), Jaycee Morgan (L2), Autumn Smith (L3) and Breana Peters (L3).

Twister coaches include Sasha Stetsenko, Louiza Kouznetsova and Galyna Losynska (formal Olympic coach).

The championship was hosted by Bainbridge Gymnast-A-Cats at Bainbridge High on April 27-28.
