A fire Thursday morning gutted one Acworth residence.

Bartow County Fire Department stations 1, 4, 6 and 9 were dispatched about 10:45 a.m. to the Bartow Carver Road address to find the structure fully involved. Crews remained on scene until about 2 p.m.

BCFD Sgt. Jessica Green said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The homeowner was not home at the time, and no one was injured. The residence, however, was deemed a total loss, valued at $38,000.

While crews were on the scene, a suspected burglary took place across the street. Green said the home was not visible to emergency personnel.

Although a Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was stationed in the area close to the road, the two suspected burglars fled on foot, escaping apprehension.

Thursday afternoon BCFD station 11 offered mutual aid to Polk County crews working a grass-woods fire on Harris Road. Green said the blaze burned about 2 acres.
