I’ve lived in Kingston for 30 years. My husband and I ran Shaw’s Exterminating Service from home for 18 years. I was president of the Kingston Women’s History Club for a partial term and served on the city council for two terms.
I know people in this town have many concerns about our finances and future. I want us to be able to take care of ourselves, even in these hard times.
I would like to see more people come to council meetings. I know that’s not always possible, but maybe the residents can form a citizens group where they can get together to discuss their concerns and opinions. It gives the people an opportunity to speak freely amongst themselves. They can then appoint one or two people to represent them at the council meetings or to take turns going to the meetings. Of course, this is just a suggestion, but it is one way to keep the community informed of what issues are on the agenda. I think that every citizen’s opinion and concern should be respected and responded to. I would like the public to have, for a small fee, access to a computer and a fax/copy machine that would be located in city hall.
I would love to see Bartow County set up blood drives, mammograms and other services in Kingston on a regular basis. We need to bring back community gatherings and other fun activities in the park. We have a beautiful field for ball tournaments. Neighbors need to reconnect with one another, and what better place than downtown Kingston.
I always have been, and always will be involved on a daily basis with the people of this great town, even after the council meetings are over.
