Robbers enter wrong address, looking for “James”
A Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to 370 Old Mill Road, in reference to a robbery, after three unknown men entered the victim’s apartment, looking for “James.”
The victim said she was inside her home when she heard a knock at the door, but nobody responded when she answered and the peep hole was covered. The suspects continued knocking; she then heard someone knocking at the back door as well and yelled she was going to call the police.
The victim called her cousin, witness 1, to see if witness 2 was the one knocking. He was not. Her cousin told her that witness 2 was on his way over to the apartment. When the victim heard another knock on the door, she thought it was witness 2, but it was three men.
The men forcefully entered the apartment. As subject 2 entered the residence, he allegedly threw the victim to the ground and ordered her not to move or he would shoot. The subject then, reportedly, got on top of her and screamed “Where is James?” Soon after, he realized his two accomplices were leaving the residence so he jumped up and left.
The victim got up, locked the door, called 911 and her cousin. During the invasion, her black iPhone was taken.
The deputy spoke with witness 2 who said after he spoke with witness 1, he walked down to the apartment to see who was at the victims door. He poked his head around the corner and saw two black males at the door yelling “open the [expletive] door before I kick the [expletive] door open. Witness 2 said he ran back to his apartment to let witness 1 know what was happening.
Witness 1 and witness 2 opened the back door to their apartment in an attempt to see what was happening. Witness 2 reported seeing a gold Honda with rims sitting in the parking lot. He also reported hearing a gunshot.
The deputy spoke with a third witness who said he heard a scream from a nearby apartment so he went outside with his gun to see what was going on. He noticed a car in the back parking lot that was running. Reportedly, two black males then burst out of his neighbor’s apartment. He yelled for them to stop, but they split up. The vehicle sped off and picked up the subjects toward the front entrance. Witness 3 said he again yelled for them to stop and fired a round into the ground. He then went to check on his neighbor.
The victim said she did not know any of the subjects nor the “James” subject that they were looking for.
Subject 1 was wearing a yellow jacket and a scarf around his face. Subject 2 was wearing a black jacket, a white scarf over his face and white gloves. The victim was unable to recall what subject 3 was wearing.
