A collision involving two large trucks left one dead Thursday afternoon.

According to Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Gordy Wright, about 3:25 p.m. a westbound Ford Mustang was stopped to make a left turn from Ga. 140 into a private drive near Big Oak Tree Road. A Ford International spreader truck, carrying fertilizer, driven by Douglas Leon Mathis, 65, from Armuchee was also westbound and came up on the Mustang too fast to stop without striking the car.

The truck veered to the left and entered the eastbound lane. An oncoming Mack dump truck struck the International in the passenger side.

Mathis was killed in the collision. The driver of the dump truck, Larry James Dixon, 50, from Ranger was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment.
