Olympics event special for all

On Thursday, 17 schools representing all grade levels and about 230 students as well as parents and community members, gathered at the Adairsville High School football field to celebrate the Special Olympics.

"[Winning] feels great," smiled Cartersville Elementary School fifth-grader A.J. Scott after placing first in one of the 200-meter dash competitions. "I feel like a champ."

Of the schools represented, nine were elementary schools.

Adairsville High School Exceptional Education instructor and event coordinator LaVonna Frady said the Special Olympics have been held in Bartow County since the early 2000s, with AHS hosting for the last five years.
