Twelve years and 450 miles after the death of a North Carolina woman, a suspect is in custody.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputies Tuesday assisted Raleigh, N.C., officers in executing a murder warrant in the homicide investigation surrounding the death of 91-year-old Beulah Dickerson.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. Oct. 24, 2001, Raleigh Police Department authorities were called to 160 Pineland Circle where emergency personnel had located the victim. Dickerson died from blunt force trauma, Raleigh police said in a media release. According to an incident report, Dickerson was killed between Oct. 22 and Oct. 24, 2001.

The investigation of the case continued in the 12 years following, and RPD homicide detectives recently were able to develop probable cause sufficient to obtain an arrest warrant charging Cathy Lynne Lentini — formerly Cathy Piper — with murder in connection with Dickerson’s death, the release read.

Lentini, who resided near the victim at the time of the crime, relocated from Raleigh to Cartersville. RPD did not provide a motive or possible connection between Lentini and Dickerson when asked Wednesday.

On Tuesday, BCSO investigators assisted RPD detectives in apprehending Lentini. According to the BCSO report, officers traveled to 80 Pine Need Trail, Cartersville, at 10 a.m. but found no one home. At 4 p.m. Lentini returned home where officers took her into custody.

Lentini is being held without bond in the Bartow County Jail pending an extradition hearing.
