Adairsville fought off a determined team of Lady Dragons in the fourth quarter to open its season with a road victory Tuesday night, 44-38.

The Lady Tigers held a two-point lead at the start of the final frame, 28-26, and then beat back Pepperell as it tried to overtake them repeatedly.

Coach Meredith Barnhill said it was a good start to the season.

“Our kids played hard and did some things very well,” she said. “I’m very pleased with their effort. It definitely was the first game of the season, and there were some things we definitely need to work out, but it was good to get an idea of where we are.”

She said despite early season miscues, she was “pleased overall with their effort and with the game itself.”

Stephanie Kuhrt led Adairsville with 12 points.

“Stephanie took a few minutes to get started, but once she did, she really had a good game,” Barnhill said.
