When a suspect stole more than $1,000 from a Cartersville home Monday, they left a threatening note behind.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the victim said someone broke in through the rear door, threw items around his home and stole his television from the living room. The suspect also stole medication from the kitchen cabinet.

In addition, the suspect stole nine $100 bills stored behind the victim’s Marine Corps plaque on his bedroom wall, $200 in cash from an envelope between DVDs in a cabinet under the television and $100 in cash from a glass vase on the kitchen counter by the sink.

The victim found a note attached to the plaque in his bedroom wall. Handwritten on a piece of white paper was, “Were watching U” [sic]. The victim also showed the deputy a “small device that looks like a cell phone insides that he said was sitting on the plaque that he thought might be a listening device,” according to the report.

Both the note and the device stayed in the victim’s possession. The victim said he was going to turn the items over to a domestic terrorism organization of the Marine Corps.
