GSP charges motorcyclist after chase, crash

A high-speed pursuit out of Cobb County ended Wednesday when the motorcycle authorities were chasing crashed.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers attempted a traffic stop at Barrett Parkway before 2 p.m. on Interstate 75 northbound, but the motorcycle did not stop. A pursuit ensued.

While attempting to leave I-75 in Emerson, the motorcycle slid into the grass at exit 283 onto Allatoona Road.

Jeremy Gale Houghtailling, 36, of Marietta, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants from Florida, was arrested and charged withspeeding, 150-plus mph in a 65; reckless driving; felony fleeing from law officers; felony possession of a stolen motorcycle; concealing the identity of a vehicle by using wrong tag; driving in the emergency lane; no insurance; and driving while license was suspended or revoked.

<*C>Space available for CPD Citizens’ Police Academy

Vacancies remain for the 2013 spring Citizens’ Police Academy offered by the Cartersville Police Department.

The Citizens’ Police Academy will be held during the month of May on four successive Wednesday nights, beginning May 8. Each session will start at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.

Among the subjects to be covered during the program are the criminal justice system traffic enforcement, including DUI enforcement; drug enforcement; special operations; criminal investigations; firearms safety; and crime prevention. Participants also will have the opportunity to utilize the driving and firearms simulators.

There is no cost to the public for the program. Attendance is limited to 30 students. In order to attend, participants must be 21 years of age and have no criminal history.
