Fatal car crash claims life of driver

Hillary Mariah Hobbs, 18, was killed Friday around 6:30 p.m. when her car swerved off the road. She was traveling south on Hall Station Road in her 2005 Volkswagen Beetle when her vehicle traveled of the shoulder of the road, reentered the roadway and then began to rotate off the shoulder of the road again. Hobbs died in the crash when her car struck a nearby tree. No alcohol is believed to be involved and Hobbs was wearing her seat belt.

Sleeping residents awakened by gunshot

Early Saturday morning, a Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a call from 13 High Point Drive, Cartersville. The residents told the officer they had been sleeping when they heard a gunshot. After inspecting the house for damage, it appeared a gun had been fired into the kitchen window sending a bullet through the kitchen wall and damaging the living room wall. No one was injured in the incident.

Car burns on I-75

A southbound driver on Interstate 75 pulled over Friday night when she noticed smoke coming out of her passenger-side vent. By the time the fire department arrived, the fire had progressed and completely engulfed the vehicle. While the SUV was severely damaged, the fire did not cause any injuries.
