Excel Lady Eagles fall to Darlington girls

Excel scored the game’s first basket, but Darlington took over after that and ran off to an 81-29 victory at home in girls high school basketball Friday night.

The Lady Tigers got their offensive jets firing early and raced to a 25-8 lead after a full quarter of play, then used a 22-10 run in the second frame to improve to 47-18 at the game’s midway point.

A 20-5 run in the third quarter stretched the lead to 67-23 and Darlington closed with a 14-6 run in the final period.

Emily Willingham and Andrea Taylor led the Lady Eagles offensively with 10 points each. Miriam Hibbard dropped in 6 points for Excel.

The loss dropped Excel’s overall record to 5-14. It is 1-7 in Region 6A-A.

Darlington raised its record to 14-5 overall, 7-1 in the region.

Excel returns to the hardwood today when it steps up two classifications to host St. Pius X. Tipoff is at 3:30 p.m.
