At its Monday meeting, the Emerson City Council approved the plans for the north campus of the LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center. Construction has already begun on the south campus, which will feature Terminus Wake Park and baseball, soccer and lacrosse venues.

LakePoint, a 1,200-acre development, features state-of-the-art sports venues and 5 million square feet of mixed-use development.

“North campus will be larger than south campus,” said Emerson City Manager Kevin McBurnett, “and contains most of the ball fields and entertainment venues, plus retail outlets, a theater and possibly a golf course. The smaller south campus offers the wakeboard park, track and field facilities, Coca Cola’s POWERADE Sports Safety and Hydration Lab, and retail outlets anchored by the 104,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shop.”

Other LakePoint long-term tenants include Perfect Game USA, the No. 1 baseball scouting organization and Braveheart, a joint-venture between the North Atlanta Soccer Association and LB3 Lacrosse.

McBurnett said he anticipates the north campus ball fields to be completed in 2015.

In other business, Emerson City Council;

• heard an amendment to the FY 2013 budget.
