Cartersville is now a perfect 20-0 in boys high school basketball.

Tuesday night, the Purple Hurricanes showed their defensive muscle early, holding Sonoraville to just 10 first-half points, and improved their Region 5-AAA record to 9-0 with a 63-28 victory.

Cartersville coach Mike Tobin said the Canes’ defense was the key to its victory against the Phoenix. “We did a good job defensively in the first half.”

He said the Canes have strung together a nice record this season.

“Being 20-0 is a great accomplishment,” he added.

North Murray 75, Adairsville 49

The Adairsville boys stayed close in the first half, but North Murray found its stride in the second half and finished in impressive fashion, winning 75-49.

The Tigers trailed North Murray by just 14-11 after a quarter of play and allowed the home team to improve its position by three more points in the second frame, as North Murray led 36-31 after two full quarters of play.

The Mountaineers opened up offensively in the third quarter, going on a 21-4 run for a 57-35 lead. In the final frame, they scored 18 points while allowing 14.
