Cartersville boxer Steven Andrade split his two matches at the Georgia Games over the weekend.

David "Peanut" Willis, his trainer, said Andrade decisioned his first opponent on Saturday but then was decisioned in his Sunday bout.

"Steven defeated Sergio Rice then lost a controversial decision to the defending state champion, Walter Campbell," Willis said. "But we give no excuses."

He said Andrade will fight again in September and they have some fighting points to work on before he steps back in the ring competitively.

"I think he did well, overall, but I told him earlier he's got to pick up his punch count," Willis said. "We'll be working on increasing that."

Willis added that when fighting a defending champion, a challenger usually needs to knock out or dominate a champion rather than leave the issue up the judges.

Andrade was the defending Novice Division champion and competes in the 141-152 pound Open Division. He is 10-3 as an amateur.
