The Adairsville City Council work session consisted of preparation for the Thursday regular meeting. After hearing departmental reports, Mayor pro-tem Buddy Bagley read a motion to approve amendments to the purchasing code for the city.

“The amendment replaces existing policies with an ordinance,” explained City Manager Pam Madison. “It establishes changes in purchasing authority levels among the staff and also establishes procedures for purchasing in an emergency situation. The main thing, though, is that it makes it an ordinance instead of policy.”

The council also considered Adairsville’s take-home vehicle policy for police and all other departments.

“All city vehicles must be used for business only,” Madison said. “Personal use is not allowed and all occupants of the vehicle must be city employees — no family riders.”

She also added that police officers must live within 30 miles of the city limits or use their own car.

The council also heard a request for $9,812 to purchase a gear drive for the North Sewer Treatment Plant and $44,000 to repair a leak on the exterior wall of the spring house, a supplier of water to the city. The council also heard a request to purchase a Bobcat tractor with a sweeper attachment for $60,000. Because it was a work session, the council cannot vote until a regular meeting.

In other business, the council:

• heard a motion to adopt the city’s personnel policies and procedures.

• heard a motion to approve the city’s travel policy.

• discussed authorizing staff to solicit quotes for GIS mapping equipment.

• discussed purchasing a K-9 officer to fill the vacancy of recently retired K-9 Officer Dagger.

• heard a motion to authorize staff to procure services of a tractor and operator for the initial phase of the Oothacalooga Trail.

The Adairsville City Council will meet on Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the Adairsville Railroad Depot.
