Victory is not something South Central Middle School’s softball team tastes very often.

That’s why a recent win was particularly sweet, according to Michele Cole, the team’s coach the past five years, who said it was the Lady Chieftains’ first in “probably a decade.”

Cole said the losing streak ended in a nonregion game against Cartersville, with her team earning a 14-4 victory after losing the first game of their doubleheader.

“Because it was a nonregion game, it won’t go on the official record,” coach Cole said, “but it was nice to see the girls experience it.”

She said the entire school shared in the moment.

“I made sure the next day it was announced at the school,” she said. “The staff at the school knew how long it had been — it had been right around a decade — and they were very nice about it.”
