Leadercast was born from a leadership development conference created by author John C. Maxwell in 2000 as an avenue for personal and organizational growth for business, civic and religious leaders who may not otherwise be able to hear from authors, CEOs, cabinet-level policymakers and more.
Sponsored by Cartersville Chick-fil-A and Peachtree Planning, the Leadercast will for the first time be available in Cartersville streaming live at the Clarence Brown Conference Center. Cartersville Chick-fil-A Operator Glen Jordon hopes to share the power of leadership development that he witnessed in his own business.
“When I saw the quality of the speakers, I thought, ‘Wow, I don’t think I can go another year without trying to let the people in our community see some of the folks that are easily accessible through this event,’” Jordon said. “In the past, Rome has had an event at Berry College and other operators in Canton and Kennesaw had events, but I didn’t know many people here that were taking advantage of it.
“In my business, over the last 20 years, it has shifted from me focusing on doing everything, to me focusing on developing people to do everything. It’s like there was a lid on my potential until I really trusted other people and started trying to attract a higher quality person.”
Leadercast 2013 speakers participating in the May 10 simulcast presentation include: former chairman and CEO of General Electric Jack Welch, author and pastor Andy Stanley, head men’s basketball coach for Duke University and Team USA Mike Kryzewski, author John C. Maxwell, Navy SEAL Rorke Denver, Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
With the leadership development tools he has learned from teachers and coaches, like those participating in Leadercast, Jordon has created a leadership team he can lean on in times of crisis and that he knows will excel when faced with an opportunity. The problem of leadership burnout was one he admits has historically plagued the fast food industry.
“I’ve heard someone say, ‘If you’re too busy, you have a leadership problem and if you have a leadership problem then you really have a leadership development problem.’ Because there are tons of people out there that are qualified and capable of leading, but they don’t go places that don’t invest in them,” he said. “Instead of just throwing a line out there and saying, ‘Hey, we need someone to lead.’ I’m trying to convince folks in the community that if they’ll develop a culture of leadership where they invest in people through books, articles and conferences like this, then they won’t have a leadership problem because leaders will be attracted to them.”

While the live event is taking place in Atlanta, home of Chick-fil-A corporate headquarters, Cartersville Chick-fil-A Marketing Director Elizabeth Womack is working to make sure local guests feel like they are watching the event live.
“We’re going to make it as much like a live event as we can. Tom [Shinall of the T.C. Show] is going to emcee, we’re going to have door prizes, we’ll be giving away some of the books of authors in it, we’re going to have vendor tables. We’re just going to do all we can to make it feel like a live event,” Womack said. “The driving force is that Glen’s passion is helping leaders develop and this was a great opportunity because everything Chick-fil-A does is just done so well. We knew we could get in on this and it would be a great opportunity to help others be the best they can be.”
