A kitchen fire damaged a Cartersville residence Thursday afternoon.

Cartersville Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Bagley said the blaze began in the kitchen at 25 Ohio St. about 2:15 p.m.

Stations 1, 2 and 4 responded. Residents were able to evacuate and no one was injured.

The kitchen suffered moderate damage, with the remainder of the home receiving smoke damage and minimal water damage.

Bartow County Fire Department worked a dual fire at 32 Richards Road in the early hours of Wednesday.

BCFD Capt. Bruce King said the fire started when a heating source failed.

Stations 1, 5 and 8 responded, remaining on scene until after 5 a.m.

One building was labeled as extreme damage and the other significant damage.

School bus struck by city truck

A group of Cobb County students on a field trip Thursday were on a bus involved in a minor traffic crash.

A city of Cartersville recycling truck backed into the school bus at Carter and Gilmer streets, according to personnel on the scene.

CFD’s Bagley said no one was injured and the children were moved to another bus and continued on their way.
