To be held Thursday, May 8, the fair is intended to celebrate the chamber’s 125th anniversary. Member businesses, said Vice President of Digital Media and Technology Joy Salter, have the option of signing up for a booth where they can provide information for their services, host activities or sell snacks for fundraisers. Salter said approximately 10 booths are still left and the deadline for sign-up is Friday.
The fair, which will be held at Georgia Power Plant Bowen’s recreation area at 111 Picklesimer Road, Cartersville, from 5 to 8 p.m., is a replacement this year for the chamber’s annual cookout.
“Well, in past years we’ve done the cookout and that’s mainly only for adults since we serve alcohol there, and it’s mainly for networking,” Salter said. “Well, this year the committee wanted to do a more family-oriented event, and having it at Plant Bowen we couldn’t serve alcohol there and that kind of fueled the focus on the family.”
Tickets for the fair are $20 for an adult, $5 for children 5 to 18 years old and free for children 4 and younger. Each ticket also covers a meal. Planned activities will include cake walks, horseshoes, corn hole games, balloon darts, horseshoes and other games.
Another attraction will be a moderated stump for politicians.
“Again, a throwback to the old county fairs, we’re going to have an actual stump there for politicians’ stump speeches, and there was a sponsorship that if the politicians wanted to they could get three minutes on the [stump] in addition to a booth at the event,” Salter said.
To sign up for a booth, businesses are asked to call Salter at 770-382-1466 or email email@example.com. To purchase tickets, call the chamber, visit the chamber’s website www.cartersvillechamber.com or go by the chamber’s office at 122 W. Main St., Cartersville.
