Following this year’s season at Cartersville High School, the track team will hit the ground running on a new track by Connor Sports. The Cartersville Board of Education will vote to approve the $300,000 purchase, to be paid for with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds, during the Monday, Jan. 13, business session.

“The [current] track is 12 years old and it’s time to be replaced. I know the coaches and track athletes are excited about it,” Superintendent Howard Hinesley said during Thursday’s work session. “The Cadillac of tracks is Mondo, but they’re very expensive and it takes a year to two years or more to get it because they’re so in demand. Connor makes a mid-level track and our coaches recommended we look at.

“... We’re very excited and it’s a very good price.”

In other school news, the board saw $335,279 in SPLOST revenue for the month of November.

“We’ve got 94.24 percent of what we budgeted [in SPLOST revenue], which is 97 percent of property taxes collected, which is around where we are always at this time of year,” Finance Committee Chair Kelley Dial said.

On Monday, the board will vote on its agenda which includes the following:

• Approval to purchase computer laptops and desktops from three quotes from Dell Corporation honoring state bid pricing from March 2013 in the amounts of $28,555, $27,564 and $42,821 to be paid from the Striving Readers Literacy Grant.

• Recommend to approve Education Consultants, Inc., of Canton, as the low bid for BenQ Equipment in the amount of $40,870.

• Approval of Troxell Communications, Inc., of Atlanta, as the low bid for Elmo Document Cameras in the amount of $16,855.

• Approval of Leisure Time Activities, the only bid received for a Cartersville Middle School band trip to Atlanta.
