A Taylorsville man told Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputies Friday that a check for $12 was stolen from his mailbox and cashed for $1,200.
According to the report, the man told police he checked his bank account Friday morning and found his checking account severely overdrawn.
He contacted his bank and discovered that someone had taken a check made out to AARP from of his mailbox for $12, and changed it to cash for $1,200.
A deputy saw a copy of the check that was changed and saw it had zeros added to it and saw a name signed on the back.
The deputy contacted Century Bank and learned that someone deposited the check at the ATM machine on Wednesday at the Cartersville branch.
No arrests had been made as of the time of the report.
