Man charged with murder in baby’s death

A 21-year-old Adairsville man was arrested Sunday on a murder warrant for the death of an 11-week-old child in April.

Jerry Wayne Bagley Jr, 21, was charged with first-degree murder and cruelty to children based upon the investigation and the autopsy findings. Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said Bagley was arrested Sunday just after midnight.

According to Millsap, deputies and investigators responded to a residence on Cedar Creek Road in April to investigate a report of an infant suffering from cardiac arrest. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta for treatment, but died four days later. An autopsy performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the child died of craniocerebral trauma.

Craniocerebral trauma, better known by its common name, traumatic brain injury, occurs as a consequence of a sudden acceleration or deceleration of the brain within the skull that significantly alters blood flow and pressure in the skull.

Bagley is being held at the Bartow County Jail awaiting a superior court bond hearing.
